The days are getting longer and the air is getting warmer. For many people that means the hibernation can now end and people will naturally start to filter into the outdoors and enjoy warmer weather. Unfortunately, a sedentary winter will often equate to stiff muscles, stiff joints and weight gain. This is extremely detrimental on overall health and wellness. The human body was designed to move on a continual basis. When we slow down and stop moving it causes the body to deteriorate. It’s extremely common for our office to see a sharp increase in new patients at this time of the year. The reason why is because as people start to get out of their winter hibernation and start to become more active they really notice the detrimental effects that being sedentary has done to them over the course of the winter. Whether it’s low back pain, neck pain, hip pain, headaches, or general joint pain people will come to their chiropractors to help alleviate their symptoms. The good news is that chiropractic is really good at doing that. We can get you moving and feeling back to normal or even better than what you thought was possible in a relatively short period of time. But, did you know, there is a widely kept secret about chiropractic that many people don’t know or realize? As we work on your body to get you feeling better people start to function better as well. More energy, better breathing, sleeping better, digesting better, and getting sick less often. Why does this happen? The answer is simple…… as you get adjusted and your body comes out of pain it also decreases the stress response that is activated. That stress response is responsible for our “fight or flight” system in our body. What that means is that when stressed your body is not concerned with digestion or sleep or anything health related….. it’s only focus is to get out of the immediate danger. In this state the body will start to display a whole host of symptoms like high blood pressure, constipation, fatigue, breathing difficulties, anxiety and weight gain. While chiropractic is not a treatment for any of these conditions it is quite common for patients to come out of that stress response and then start to see their body and their health improve as a result. One of the most common things I hear a patient say after a course of chiropractic care is “I haven’t had this much energy in such a long time”. Imagine what you can do if you had a little more energy in your day.
