As the days grow longer and the temperature becomes more enjoyable, summer offers a wonderful opportunity to embrace outdoor activities. Whether it’s camping, traveling, gardening, or just relaxing in the backyard here are some essential tips to help you stay healthy and vibrant throughout the summer.

1. Stay Hydrated

One of the most critical aspects of summer health is staying hydrated. Increased temperatures can lead to dehydration, which can affect your energy levels, mood, and overall health. Aim to drink plenty of water throughout the day and consider adding electrolytes into your drink. A good rule of thumb for water intake is to consumer half your body weight in ounces of water. So if you weigh 160 lbs then drink 80 ounces of water (approximately 8 glasses of water).

2. Get a Fair Dose of Vitamin D

Too much sun is not a good thing but conversely too little sun is also not good for health. Vitamin D is a very important hormone in the body. It serves many aspects of health and the best way to get it is through direct sun exposure. All that is needed is 20 mins per day of direct sun exposure to achieve adequate levels. A mixture of sun and shade is important so you can get Vitamin D and not burn. Eating lots of antioxidant rich foods will help to counteract the harmful effects of the sun.

3. Eat Seasonal Produce

Fresh fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that are crucial for health. Take a trip to a local farmers market or better yet, grow your own garden and enjoy the healthy bounty that comes with it.

4. Stay Active

The warm weather invites us to be more active, whether it’s hiking, biking, swimming or playing sports. Aim for at least 150 mins of moderate aerobic activity each week! That being said, always listen to your body to avoid overheating. Early mornings or late evenings are great times to get your body moving as the temperatures are usually cooler.

5. Prioritize Sleep

The longer days can sometimes disrupt sleep patterns. Ensure you’re getting enough rest by establishing a regular sleep schedule. Keep your bedroom cool and dark, and consider using fans or air condition during hot nights. Quality sleep is essential for recover, mood regulation and overall health

6. Get Adjusted

Make sure you are properly aligned with your regular tune up adjustment so that you can make full use of your time to really enjoy the short summer season.
